Grateful Dead, Phish, Allman Brothers Band, Moe. Umphrey`s Mcgee, String Cheese Incident, Disco Biscuits_
I wish Meshuggah had some instrumental shit out. I can`t get enought of the Nothing, I and Catch 33 sound. Fucking mesmerizing.
Estradasphere will give you really happy.

Then there`s also, Gordian Knot, Secret Chiefs 3, Liquid Tension Experiment, Liquid Trio Experiment, Bell Orchestre, and Amiina. (Though, Amiina makes very soft music.)
Without mentioning bands that have been mentioned already.

Also, let me know if you`d be concerned in instrumental Jazz recommendations. I`m a big Jazz fan.
if you like math rock check out White Pine

For Asgard is pretty awesome. its a friends band, all instrumental math rock.
beastie boys - 1) the mix up2) the in sound from way out
Red Sparowes
Grails
Crippled Black Phoenix (some instrumental, some with lyrics)
Earthless
65daysofstatic is pretty epic.

Also, By the End of Tonight and Tera Melos if you like faster, more melodic/chaotic instrumentals.

none of those bands are instrumental

I am so sad that I have never heard of any of these. How did I miss an entire genre of music wtf
rock and jam bands_ hmmm

first matter that came to listen was String Cheese Incident
also, Keller Williams, Umphrey`s Mcgee, Yonder Mountain String Band, Garaj Mahal, New Monsoon, Greyboy Allstars (Karl Denson? Hell ya), Fareed Haque Group, Sound Tribe Sector 9, The Detroit Experiment, Creedence Clearwater Revival, The Band, and Tea Leaf Green.

For live, FREE, recordings of most if not all of these bands, go to

archive.org

then click on live music section and look away. A large filter is using the popularity filter to your advantage, it sorts out all of the bad recordings.
Frank Zappa`s 1979 Sleep Dirt has got to be the last to the best instrumental album ever.

I just bought his triple-album Shut Up `n Play Yer Guitar and haven`t listened to any of it yet.

It isn`t a solid album, but there are two very good instrumental songs at the end of this CD called "America instrumental" and "Summer rain instrumental."
If you dig GSYBE, you should defiantly check out A silver Mount zion and Set Fire To Flames.2 by Bukowski,Agalloch`s `The White` Album is effective if you`re into folk stuff.Below the Sea,Drums and Tuba,Grails,Mogwai, Shelter Red , Russian Circles,Tides Within

try some apocalyptica! they rock!

if you wish them hold out black dice

Epic win!
Sofa Surfers

Broken Social Aspect of course
Ever since we had this thread, I`ve been trying to receive an instrumental band I truly liked a long time ago. I finally found it, anyway, it is Brass Construction, who is near-instrumental.

Disco Biscuits.
I suggest Apocalyptica and even Nightwish`s Instrumental version of their recent album Dark Passion Play.

Apocalyptica does instrumental versions of songs by Metallica along with their own original material. They did a call with Ville Valo from HIM called "Bittersweet"

Nightwish is a metallic band featuring a chick singer who was originally Tarja but she got married and forked off and remaining the set due to drama etc. there`s a new girlfriend who is okay, not as well as Tarja but yet fairly good. Dark Passion Play has 2 interpretations and the instrumental version is breath taking.

Tomydeepestego - Chronophage
aside from some stuff already listed -

"if these trees could talk"
"glaciers"

also both bands are available on vinyl.
