Review by techguru for BlackBerry Bold 9650 Phone (Verizon Wireless)Rating: part of my once a year phone upgrade. I was capable to get a 2 for 1 deal so my wife got one as well. This is the first smart phone for both of us. After having it for a little while I find I can make an educated review.
My Help is Verizon Wireless.
In my country I get exceptional coverage with very few dead zones (haven`t found any yet). The Verizon 3G is exceedingly fast and honest and I have yet to use the wifi as the 3G is as fast or faster than wifi in my area.
The call is a decent size. My acquaintance has the Curve 8830 and they are virtually identical in size. The Boldface is somewhat longer and somewhat thinner than the Curve (were discussion fractions here, nearly undetectable). First thing one will find is that this phone feels sturdy. I wouldn`t toss it off a roof, but it definately feels very easily made. There is also some import to this phone. I don`t recognize how it compares to other BlackBerry`s consequence wise, but you definately feel like your property a phone. The ring is not heavy though and I can make the call all day long as it is a really comfortable fit.
For previous BlackBerry owners, the keypad has been redesigned. The keys are somewhat better than those on the Curve. The keys have likewise been pushed together whereas on the Arch there is some spacing between the keys. This helps to continue the phone narrower and also help prevent food / liquid out of the gaps. The keys are bare to promote and again feel solid. The keypad for me is simple to case on though you will produce a few mistakes. It does require some getting used to the keyboard. The keyboard is the standard QWERTY type so should be companion to most users. The keyboard is backlit for simple visibility and the phone adjusts the backlight depending on surronding light levels. The dog pad is elementary to use and is a huge improvement over the trackball on previous models. The trackpad facility the saame way as a touchpad on a laptop.
The cover is shining and bare to see. I would urge a screen protector to anyone buying this phone. The test is also smartly organized with the icon positions. Like the keypad, the screen will automatically adjust its strength to the surrounding light levels. The test is flush with the event with no where for soil or lint to get trapped.
The apps and programs for this ring are what make Blackberry number 1. I really enjoy in blackberry messenger and app world. The programs are very unadorned to use and straight forward. I will caution anyone that the Verizon Apps (vcast, vz navigator, etc. are an additional burden on top of the data plot fees. For those like me that don`t wish to pay the excess charge a instant search in BB AppWorld will see you as excellent or better apps to exchange the VZW ones. My one charge is VZW loaded some games onto the call which are demos and ask you to buy them. If I wish to buy a game, a second search in BB AppWorld will let me pick from a great selection. BlackBerry is generally for business use, but don`t let that mark you. There are enough of fun apps with more appearance out all the time.
I have never had an come away with the array life. One will see that the smartphones will go through a array quicker than a standard phone. But, if you turn wifi off and make certain you exit all of your apps then array life isn`t an come forth. I think that people reporting poor array life either don`t recognize how to go off their apps properly or are going the wifi on.
I have yet to use the wifi feature as VZW 3G is exceedingly fast in my area. I do my web browsing through the google app and feel that a page will loading in 10 seconds or less. The web browsers fuction the like as any web browser on your computer. Imputing webaddresses is somewhat slower since you wont be capable to character as quickly but yet simple.
The song feature is exceptional. People often tell me they leave that I am on a phone. It is by far the clearest phone I get always owned. Included with the call are a belt case and earphones. There are also international adaptors for the secure so you can plug your mount into any outlet. The belt case is substantially made and excellent for daily wear. I am in public safety and the case is inadequate for my needs so I ordered an OtterBox. The event should contain up for your fair self. There is a magnet placed within the character that will automatically put your telephone into sleep mode when you enter it. This helps to conserve array life, yet you can even hear incoming calls.
There are a few negatives to this phone. First is where Research In Motion (RIM) resolute to put the mini usb port used for charging. They placed it on the good position of the telephone in this area mid way up. This makes it a nuisance in the rear to type while charging your phone. Charging ports should be on top or tail of the phone. Also, the convience keys on the face of the phone are a nuisance in the hindquarters when pulling your phone out of its case. I have disabled them to give it simpler for me. The earphones that number with the ring are horrible. They are clear sounding and do get a built in mic so you can use them as a handsfree contrivance. They are also stereo which is excellent. But, that is the end of their excellent points. The earphones are extremely uncomfortable to wear. I wore them for in this country 40 mins and was left with ear pain for in this area an hour afterwards. The earphones do not leave you to try in comming calls so if your phone is not on your hip you will lose a call. They are excellent for casual use but I would urge a bluetooth.
Accessories I would advocate for this ring are a car mount, Bluetooth, and an aftermarket case and screen protectors.
